Pharmacy Board of Malaysia
Registration of Pharmacist Act 1951 [Act 371] regulates the pharmacy profession in Malaysia, excluding Sabah, where it is not yet enforced. This act was enforced in Peninsular Malaysia on February 1, 1952, while Sarawak and WP Labuan began in 2009.
Pharmacy Board of Malaysia (PBM) was established in accordance with the provisions of Section 3 of Act 371. This establishment serves to ensure the compliance of pharmacist and corporate organisation registrations with Act 371, to facilitate the coordination of ethical matters pertaining to pharmacists and corporate organisations, and to formally recognise the Pharmacy Degree Programme as stipulated in Schedule I of Act 371.
Section 3 Establishment and constitution of Pharmacy Board
- There shall be established a Pharmacy Board consisting of the following members:
a) | the Director General of Health ex-officio;
|
b) | the Director of Pharmaceutical Services ex-officio;
|
c) | eight registered pharmacists in the public service, appointed by the Minister;
|
d) | three registered pharmacists from any higher educational institution offering a course or programme in pharmacy, appointed by the Minister;
|
e) | two registered pharmacists not in the public service, appointed by the Minister; and
|
f) | three registered pharmacists not in the public service, nominated by the association representing pharmacists in private practice, approved and appointed by the Minister,
|
who shall be citizens of Malaysia.
