This report presents a retrospective study the impact of pooled procurement on medicines pricing involving the Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Defence (MOD), and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). The study covering 82 medicines based on two year contract signed before (2018-2020) and after (2020-2022) after the implementation of pooled procurement.

The Know Your Medicines programme was introduced to raise public awareness and provide education on the rational and safe use of medicines, with the aim of enhancing users’ knowledge and skills in managing their medicines effectively.

To support this effort, the MEDITIPS: Know Your Medicines leaflet is shared with the public as a handy reference after sharing sessions or awareness activities about the quality use of medicines. The leaflet is updated regularly to suit current needs.

The Malaysian healthcare system runs as a two-tiered system consisting of public and private healthcare sectors. In the public sector, healthcare costs are subsidised by the government through general taxation, whereas in the private sector, these costs are paid for by patient’s out-of-pocket funds, private insurance or their employers.

Retrospective Analysis of the Malaysia Medicines Price Guide: Data Review from 2012 to 2022 refers to the analysis conducted on medicine price data voluntarily shared by Product Registration Holders (PRHs) for the Consumer Price Guide for 2012-2022.
