Indicator Guideline for Pharmacy Quality Improvement Initiatives Action Plan by Years 2024–2026

The Pharmacy Quality Improvement Initiatives (PharmQIIs) Action Plan has been created based on the National Policy for Quality in Healthcare (NPQH) and was carefully discussed at the national level by the Pharmacy Quality Improvement Initiatives Committee during the strengthening workshop held in 2022. The Action Plan was officially approved on 25 March 2024 and has been monitored annually online starting in 2024.

The objectives of this Action Plan are as follows:

National Generic Medicines Framework

The Malaysian healthcare system runs as a two-tiered system consisting of public and private healthcare sectors. In the public sector, healthcare costs are subsidised by the government through general taxation, whereas in the private sector, these costs are paid for by patient’s out-of-pocket funds, private insurance or their employers.

Guideline for the Management of Medicine Donations

 

The guideline for the management of medicine donations has been developed by the Working Group of the Technical Committee of Drug Availability under the umbrella of the Malaysian National Medicines Policy (MNMP).  The core principles of this guideline are adapted from the World Health Organization (WHO) Guidelines for Medicine Donations (Revised 2010).

Quality Policy

The Pharmaceutical Services Program has formulated a quality policy that aligns with the organisation's objectives. This policy is dynamic and will be updated periodically to ensure its relevance. It will be communicated to all program members to ensure they understand it and can deliver services in line with its requirements.

The quality policy has been established with consideration of the following:

Towards COVID-19 Endemic in Malaysia: The Journey Continues

Following the regulatory approval of the COVID-19 vaccines, the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (Program Imunisasi COVID-19 Kebangsaan - PICK) was launched at the beginning of year 2021. It was a monumental effort in vaccinating the entire country and accelerated the transition towards COVID-19 endemic in Malaysia. Being an indispensable part of the healthcare system, pharmacy personnel continued to work hand in hand with other healthcare professional to make the PICK programme a success.

Guidelines for Reviewers - Journal of Pharmacy Quality Improvement Initiatives (PharmQIIs)

The Journal of Pharmacy Quality Improvement Initiatives (PharmQIIs) is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Pharmaceutical Services Programme (PSP), Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) since 2022. PharmQIIs is set to publish manuscripts derived from Quality Improvement Initiatives (QIIs) that are conducted in Quality Improvement Reports (QIR) format.
